Wayne Rainey vs. Kevin Schwantz

The MotoGP website put together this documentary about one of the most fierce and unique rivalries in the history of the series between Americans Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz. They raced against each other for 7 years in MotoGP, Rainey for Yamaha and Schwantz for Suzuki. Their relationship started off as hatred for each other as both riders had vastly different riding styles. Over the years, the guys started to learn from each other and develop a deep mutual respect that they still have to this day. Toni Bou National Trials 2012

This is more HD footage of trials motocross of Toni Bou at what appears to be a Spanish  outdoor trials event. He showcases the skills that have made him so dominant in both indoor and outdoor trials motocross for the last several years. His mastery of the sport is on par if not greater than Michael Schumacher was to Formula 1 and Sebastien Loeb has been to the World Rally Championship. Also, whoever made this course is demented.

Jay Leno’s 1981 Honda CBX

This is a kind of special episode of Jay Leno’s garage because this week they feature the first vehicle Jay ever bought new, the 1981 Honda CBX. The CBX is another classic that didn’t sell well when new but has since become a collector’s item. The inline-6 cylinder engine along with the air suspension made it a great sport tourer but those features also made it intimidatingly complicated. The inline-6 actually made a return to motorcycles this year on the BMW K-series sport tourerers. The natural balance of the configuration make is smooth and powerful for putting away a ton of miles on the highway. It’s pretty cool to see that Honda put together the same formula before the world was ready for it.

The 59 Club – Look at Life

This is a clip from an episode of a show called Look at Life from the 60’s which examines the birth of Cafe Racer and Ton Up culture in the UK. What makes the clip interesting is that most of society viewed these motorcycle riders as hooligans. The show focuses on the 59 Club which was founded by a reverend to reach youth through motorcycle riding. Not only does the club have weekly gatherings, they also participate in lots of charity and social work that most of society never heard about in the news.

Florida Supermoto 2012

Here a couple of videos from this year’s Florida Supermoto series. Supermoto is interesting because you basically put street slicks on a motorcross bike and then do mixed surface racing. Grip and setup are compromised in both directions so it requires riders to be extremely adaptable. It looks like a lot of fun. In this first video, the Built Brand Clothing guys talk about why they love riding Supermoto and putting on these events in Florida:
