Lancia Rally Legends

You know there’s something special going on when a guy who reviews supercars for a living is awestruck about riding in several of his dream cars and meeting his heroes all in one place. That’s exactly what happened when Chris Harris was invited to Pirelli’s launch of their new historic rally tire. Oddly enough, he wasn’t allowed to drive any cars equipped with the new tire, but Pirelli had four time WRC champion Juha Kankkanen, rally legend Markku Alen and 6 time Italian rally champion Paolo Andreucci there driving all of Lancia’s Group B rally monsters along with a few modern rally cars. Chris gets to go for a ride in a Lancia Stratos, the twincharged Lancia Delta Integrale S4 and the only two wheel drive car to be the Audi Quattro, the Lancia 037. It’s an amazing collection of some of the greatest rally cars ever built and we’re lucky enough to see them in action and have Chris Harris describe their natures to us.

Cult of the Turbo – Chris Harris

I came across this older Chris Harris video from back when he was still with Evo magazine. I think it came out last year when Porsche had just unveiled the 911 GT2 RS. Chris takes it and compares it with some other turbo cars from different time periods and build philosophies. It’s probably the only time you’ll see the GT2 RS parked next to a Noble M600, Jaguar XJ220 and a Ferrari F40. I’ll admit the video isn’t particularly informative, but it is fun to watch.

Chris Harris Shares His E28 M5 With Us

If you are 1 of the 20 or so people who regularly read this blog right now, chances are you can understand this video. Chris Harris shares his personal E28 M5 with us. It was the car that captured his imagination while he was a young kid falling in love with automobiles for the first time. For enthusiasts like us, there are certain mechanical devices that speak to our souls. The first time you see one, you just know it. You say to yourself, “Man, I really like that.” The part that makes non-enthusiasts think that we’re crazy is that it’s usually something quirky that needs work. Not all cars, trucks or motorcycle are created and maintained to perfection, but we’re not perfect as people, either. There’s just something that connects our state of being with the existence of these mechanical objects. As cheesy as it may sound, it’s like finding a soulmate. It’s something that you always regret selling because it feels right when you have it around and you miss when it’s gone. Being able to have that kind of connection with something made of a bunch of steel, aluminum and rubber components is part of who we are.

BMW M3 GTS vs. Mercedes Benz C63 AMG Black vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0

It really doesn’t get much better than this if you like cars. Lets round up the three best track oriented street cars that are currently made and set them loose in the hands of one of the best car reviewers alive today. Chris Harris pits the BMW M3 GTS and the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series against his personal Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Liter. These are the most hardcore track oriented street cars currently made by major manufacturers. The key distinction of this genre of cars is that they should perform well on track as well as being just practical enough to able to drive to the track. That’s what sets these cars apart from something like the KTM X-bow. In the first part of the video, Harris explains the background and philosophy of each car. The second part of the video involves taking all three cars to the track to set lap times and to see how well you can hoon in them. Dreaming about stuff like this is a big chunk of what being a car guy is all about.

Chris Harris Track Tests The New Lotus Exige S

The new Lotus Exige S is based on the current Exige chassis, but has the supercharged V8 from the Evora S, redesigned body work and a completely new rear axle. Lotus has also gotten aboard the the new age of electronic sports cars that was ushered in by the Nissan GT-R a few years ago. This car is equipped with an active traction control computer that calculates the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road surface on the fly. It’s the first car that I’ve heard of that does that instead of using a fixed programmed value. Harris talks extensively about the significance of the car to the company and gives it a good run on the Lotus test track.
