The Rise of V8’s in Formula D

“There’s no replacement for displacement.” That certainly seems to hold true for professional drifting in the Formula D series for the past few years. A lot of the teams have switched to large displacement V8 engines for big power numbers with good reliability and a broad torque curve. The MPGomatic channel on YouTube broke from their usual content to film this mini-documentary on the rise of V8’s in Formula D. It’s mainly interviews with the drivers of Formula D with some drifting clips mixed in. They talk about the history of turbocharged inline 4’s and the reasons that caused the shift to V8’s in Formula D. The back half of the video also has input from the few drivers who are holding out with turbocharged and rotary engines.
