Drift Lessons From The King – Jay Leno

Here’s another installment from Jay Leno’s first trip to Japan. Here he’s getting drifting lessons from The Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya. Even though Leno is probably the most famous car nut in the world, he sucks at drifting. The result is a pretty entertaining video. Jay almost puts the Toyota GT-86 into the wall twice. Keiichi has to pull the hand brake from the passenger seat at the end to purposely spin the car instead of crumpling it into a concrete wall.

ICON Derelict – Jay Leno

I’m a big fan of the stuff that they build at ICON. They take a lot of awesome nostalgic cars and trucks and put modern running gear under them. Muscle car guys would call these “Resto-Mod” except ICON likes to work with old 4×4’s like the Toyota Landcruiser and Ford Bronco. The owner of ICON, Jonathan Ward, started this Derelict product line after coming across some old American cars with perfect patina. The first Derelict is this Chrysler Town and Country wagon with a Desoto front end that Ward built for himself. There’s a complete modern chassis under the body and a new 6.4 liter Hemi V8 under the hood. It could be due to the fact that I also own a rusty car, but I think what they did with the wagon is just fantastic.

Jay Leno Visits the Nissan Technical Center

Jay Leno lets us in on some of his VIP treatment by bringing his camera crew along with him on his recent trip to Nissan’s Technical Center in Japan to film these two videos. In the first video he gets to tour all of Nissan’s zero emissions and fuel cell vehicles. Jay checks out some of the electric vehicle concepts and then he gets a pleasant surprise from Nissan’s Chief Creative Officer, Shiro Nakamura, who gives him a sneak peek of the Terra fuel cell compact SUV that was debuted last week at the Paris Auto Show. Unlike some of the quirkier cars in the room, the Terra actually looks like it could go into production. I’m glad to see zero emissions vehicles starting to branch out into markets beyond funny looking compact cars.

Jay Leno’s 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Coupe

Jay Leno bought this 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Coupe from the son of a man named Fred who passed away and wanted the car to go to someone who would appreciate and care for it. Jay says it represents a time when America made the best cars in the world. This particular car has been purposely left unmodified and unrestored so that it could just be an enjoyable driver.

2012 SRT Viper GTS – Jay Leno’s Garage

This is another one of those car geek videos that regular people will find boring. Jay Leno checks out the new SRT Viper GTS with some folks from Chrysler. They talk about the old Vipers and how SRT is now it’s own brand for cars like these. The car’s designer then comes in and they pour over all of the little details of the car.
