2013 SRT Viper GTS vs. 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The concept for the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was born when the question of “What can we do with the Corvette if we allowed the price tag to exceed $100,000?” GM’s answer to that question was a highly capable ZR1 version of their Corvette that stood alone in the American Supercar class. That was until the performance division of Dodge, SRT, decided to make a new Viper. I wouldn’t be surprised if the SRT engineers bought a ZR1 to use as a benchmark because many of the performance specifications are nearly identical. Naturally we have to see which is the better car. Thankfully Motor Trend’s Johnny Lieberman and Randy Pobst are on the job with some hot laps around Laguna Seca.

2013 SRT Viper GTS – Motor Trend

Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago gets to take a crack at the all-new 2013 SRT Viper GTS. The results are no huge surprise as the latest car “doesn’t betray what made Viper iconic and legendary.” That’s another way of saying it’s still a ridiculous and scary superhero caricature of a car. SRT has given the Viper more power and a lighter weight but at the same time have made an effort to improve the chassis balance so that you can at least entertain the thought of approaching the car’s limits. Watch the video to see all the details of the new car including a lap around Laguna Seca in race mode with Randy Pobst. After that, check out the article on Motor Trend’s website comparing the new Viper with the Corvette ZR-1 to see who makes the best American performance car that costs over $100,000.

1967 Chrysler Imperial – Jay Leno’s Garage

The Chrysler Imperial was designed “for the man who doesn’t seek prestige because he already has it.” I really don’t think there is anybody in the world more appropriate to present this 1967 Chrysler Imperial than Jay Leno. It’s one of the amazing cars that found its way to him just because he’s the world’s most famous car guy. He bought it from a 93 year old movie producer who bought the car brand new along with 2 spares of every conceivable part on the car. It’s an amazing piece of automotive history from an era when the Imperial was the pinnacle of luxury and sophistication.

2013 SRT Viper First Drive – Car and Driver

Somebody at Car and Driver has the hookup with the folks at Chrysler. They got their technical editor in to be the first civilian to drive the new SRT Viper. Jay Leno didn’t even get to drive it when the car was featured on his show. As you will see, the engineers were not very pumped about Car and Driver being at their test facility. In the end, it seems that the new Viper is a very strong evolution of the old car. Gone are the days of the one-dimensional supercar that could get by on only being fast with compromises everywhere else. Car and Driver seems to think that SRT has built a real world class supercar with the newest Viper.

2012 SRT Viper GTS – Jay Leno’s Garage

This is another one of those car geek videos that regular people will find boring. Jay Leno checks out the new SRT Viper GTS with some folks from Chrysler. They talk about the old Vipers and how SRT is now it’s own brand for cars like these. The car’s designer then comes in and they pour over all of the little details of the car.
