Lamborghini recently celebrated its 50 year anniversary with a huge gathering at their factory and tour around Italy. Harry Metcalfe of evoTV took the opportunity to make this extremely thorough tour of the lineage of Lamborghini’s V12. He shows every model and iteration from the Miura to today’s Aventador. This 24 minute video will make you an instant expert.
I really enjoy these episodes of evo Diaries by Harry Metcalfe. He basically goes over all the fine little details of the cars he gets to drive. They’re the kind of thing that only other gearheads can appreciate. This time around, Metcalfe has purchased one of my favorite cars of all time, the Lancia Delta Integrale Evo II. He actually purchased the car from an owner in Japan after a long search. This is the car that Lancia won the World Rally Championship with 6 times in a row after winning the last year of Group B with the rear wheel drive 037 (Lancia is the first and only manufacturer to beat 4 wheel drive cars in a 2 wheel drive). The crazy thing is the Delta is actually a hatchback from the 70’s that Lancia hot-rodded to the point of being a world-beater.
Harry Metcalfe of evo magazine gets a chance to spend a day with Aston Martin’s current ultimate expression of the car, the One-77. We haven’t really seen too many of the details of the One-77 because Aston Martin didn’t let any reporters drive it since the entire production run was only 77 units; so this video is a bit of a treat. The One-77 is powered by a 650 horsepower naturally aspirated 7.3 liter V12 that starts out as the standard Aston Martin 6.0 liter bored out with special cylinder liners. Metcalfe says the variable valve timing and lighter flywheel give the engine a completely different attitude than the standard engine making the One-77 an edgy high rpm horsepower car. We also get a view of the beautiful carbon fiber enclosed engine bay and the pushrod suspension at all four corners. It’s another intimate look at one of the most exquisite cars in existence.
Harry Metcalfe of evo is back with another car guy test. Metcalfe has a special relationship with Horacia Pagani that allows him to bring us some exclusive coverage of some of Pagani’s inner workings. This video from the annual Pagani gathering is no exception. The first half covers the finer details and driving nuances of the new Huayra. Harry says the Huayra is similar to a two-wheel drive Veyron and I guess he had to make sure because he spent the next day driving around in the new Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse roadster. Again, he walks us through the finer details of the car including some of the bits that he doesn’t like. There’s no crazy drifting or video editing so you will only find this interesting if you’re a real car geek.
The Quail show at Pebble Beach is probably one of the most exclusive car shows in the world. Tickets are $500 and the show takes place during Pebble Weekend before the RM Auctions. Harry Metcalfe of evo Magazine brought a camera along with him for this year’s show so we could see what it was all about. Highlights include what will probably be the only public appearance of the McLaren X-1, the factory built one-off custom based on the MP4-12C. Dodge brought out the new Viper and Lamborghini showed up with their new SUV concept and the Sesto Elemento (Italian for “6th Element” which is Carbon). A train of Shelby Cobras got a police escort from Laguna Seca where they were participating in the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. That’s just the tip of the iceberg in terms of describing all the cars that were there.
